COUNTRYSIDE DAY OF SERVICE

We are very excited to bring back Countryside Day of Service this year!  This service-learning project will culminate on Wednesday, February 14th with our Countryside students, families, and community members packing food for people who are experiencing hunger in our local community.  This year, Countryside is partnering with Harvest Pack, a local, non-profit organization, to make this service event happen.

YOU CAN HELP!

Countryside students raised an overwhelming amount of money during the October Wacky-Tacky-Walk-a-Thon!  $15,000 will be used to fund the meals we pack on February 14th.  At 30 cents per meal this will enable us to pack 50,000 meals as a school community!

We need adults to help the food packing run smoothly on February 14.  Please consider volunteering for this FUN job (hairnet included)!  There are several ways to help:

Sign up to volunteer with your student(s) and their class, sign up here.

Be a SUPER Volunteer (Heavy lifter or ½ day volunteer), sign up here.

LEARN MORE ABOUT HARVEST PACK

Harvest Pack was founded in 2012 and is  a 501(c)(3) humanitarian hunger relief nonprofit organization. Harvest Pack addresses food insecurity by supporting volunteers in bringing meal packing events to their local communities. In 2017, 40 million Americans suffered from food insecurity, including more than 12 million children. It is estimated that about 700 million people worldwide struggled with food insecurity in 2018. You can learn more about Harvest Pack by visiting their website: www.harvestpack.org.

The meals we pack on February 14 will be donated to two local partners:

  1. VEAP in Bloomington creates pathways to stronger, more hopeful communities through access to healthy food, housing stability, and supportive services.

  2. Every Meal (formerly the Sheridan Project) focuses on filling the food gaps children face on weekends, extended breaks, and summer when they’re not able to access school meal programs.

The week of February 12-16th, students can dress up for Spirit Week.
